New Technique for 3D Printed Heart -Monday, August 12, 2019
Recently, a scientific paper published by a group of researchers at Carnegie Mellon University introduced a new 3D bioprinting method that brings the tissue engineering field closer to being able to 3D print full-size adult hearts. Their latest version of the Freeform Reversible Embedding of Suspended Hydrogels (FRESH) technology allows them to print collagen in 3D
According to the online edition of the British journal Nature Medicine, American scientists have used human cells to create a three-dimensional human eye model that can be blinked, which is expected to replace the current common animal model.
How Long Can Humans Live? -Friday, August 9, 2019
Humans have a longer life span around the world. Despite experiencing significant ups and downs, life expectancy at birth has been growing steadily for many years. In the past two centuries, this number has more than doubled.
The development of potential seaweed as a topical ingredient in gelatin substitutes further expands the range of vegetarian capsules. Seaweed gum has excellent thermal reversible film forming properties and it is a potential animal gelatin replacement.
For drugs with a short half-life, if sufficient controlled release is to be maintained, the dose per unit of dosage must be large, resulting in an increase in the dosage form. In general, drugs with a half-life of less than one hour are not suitable for use as a slow release form.
In a new study, researchers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, and Brigham and Women's Hospital developed a swallowable capsule containing tiny electronic devices.
An oral controlled-release(OCR) drug refers to an oral formulation which can continuously release a drug for a long period of time after taking, wherein the main drug is slowly released and absorbed at an appropriate rate. The OCR drug needs to be taken less frequently, which is beneficial for reducing the side effects caused by exceeding the therapeutic blood concentration range, and it can be preserved in an effective concentration range for a long time to maintain the therapeutic effect.
Rani Therapeutics, based in San Jose, USA, announced that RaniPill, a biomacromolecular delivery capsule developed by the company, demonstrated good safety and tolerability in its first human trial. The company plans to launch further clinical trials later this year to test the effects of RaniPill delivery drugs in humans. Perhaps the future of oral biologics is not far from us.
